Fake news is false information used to shape your views, opinions or ideas. The information is often exaggerated heavily biased or simply not true.
Types of fake news:
- Clickbait
- Propaganda
- Satire/parody
- incorrect journalism
- Misleading headings
- Biased or slanted news
Why do people write fake news?
I think people write fake news to make themselves seem better or make others seem inferior. Not only that, but people are incredibly biased in todays society. This means that they will try to get others to se their opinions over others, or to take their side in things.
How to check for fake news:
- Always investigate the source, check if their reliable or not and investigate past stories to see if they were real or exaggerated
- Always read beyond the head lines and see what the story is first.
- check who the author is, they could be frauds with a fake news name. Always check who they are.
- Always click on links within the text. See weather they have support from other sights about the story.
- Check the date of when the "news" was posted. Are they bringing up old news to make people biased?
- Read the text and see if it seems too good to be true, or if its missing too much information.

"I first started surfing in 2009, after being referred to a well known charity called the Wave Project. I was referred to the Wave Project because when I was young I faced a lot of challenges and was at a bit of a loose end.
I was born with cerebral palsy, autism and a heart condition which meant that I spent a lot of time as a kid in hospital having operations and so on. Because I was quite a quirky kid, unfortunately school wasn’t a place I fitted in and I was on the receiving line to lots of bullying which caused me to feel extremely anxious and depressed. When mum told me about the Wave Project and the fact that she referred me for surf therapy I laughed! We were sat in a little cafĂ© in Penryn and I was so skeptical. I was thinking how could someone like me surf when I can hardly swim? I hated water, and even the thought of taking a bath made me cringe. I was scared to paddle up to my knees, so the thought of surfing was petrifying."

You did really well Reae - it's such a shame you couldn't get to the interview, but you got around it well with editing. A great story, well constructed, and all on your own. Great stuff!
